Welcome in the fascinating world of PSoCs!

When you are using a PSoC3 you are quite right here. If you have got an development kit, tekk us which one and we will be able to help you.

Thanks Bob.!

What do you think about a big touchpad, let say 17" x 14" implemented with Capsense?

What resolution are you trying to achieve ? Normally for TFT this size

resistive TS most effective, especially if handing signature and drawing

capability.

Hi Dana !

The project I have in mind is about a small animal walkway, let's say a kind of "mat".

It Is for veterinary use for puppy and kitten.

On the other hand is capsense "sensible" to animals paws?

If so, let's go from there.

My target is to bulid an animal walk throuhg  and detect relative animal's paws position.

The mat dimention need to be, let say 18"x 14".

The weight of the puppy or kitten will be between half a pound an 15 pound.

The resolution is such that it is possible to detect at least one or two point support of each leg over the mat.

What do think about this aplication for capsense.?

Which can be the disvantage ? I know the advantage.

Dana are posible private message in this forum?

Bets regards,

Some thoughts -

1) The mat resolution would be set by smallest paw, with oversampling. Not knowing smallest

paw, as an example, lets use 1 sq ". Now with oversampling by at least 2, thats 1/2" square.

So you would need (18 x 2) x ( 14 x 2) = 1008 elements, read I/O pins, quite impractical I

would think. Also the environmentals I would think a bit challenging. Pee, poop, dirt, films.....

Keep in mind # elements is driven by desire for positional measurment in design and I assume

paw size measurment as well.

Whereas if you used resistive touch mat, its a piece of cake, interface 4 or 5 wires, 7 if you want

real hi res. The controller is also trivial. Some general info -

I think for the size of the mat you are considering R touch would be the way to go, cost wise,

and interface repeatability and ease of implementing.

Thank you Dana!!!

I love the resistive touch idea !!!

Mi question is where and how get a resistive touch os shuch magnitude.

Can you be so kind to give me a guidline to that ?

There are quite a few vendors making R touch screens, Taiwan based

especially. Just Google "resistive touch" to take a look. Many will offer

samples if they perceive there is a good opportunity. So if you find a

supplier that looks interesting, find their local sales office, contact them,

and maybe you can get them to sample you to get you started.

A problem comes to my mind: Your pets have (mostly) 4 paws, does the resistive-touch distingush more than one touch at a time?

The design is only for animals with 1 paw.....

Consider digital resistive touch screens -

When working with R TSs there are several factors affecting

performance. Such as transmissivity, actuation force, etc.. So

use the vendors ap notes when doing the design.
