Hi!

I have a android tablet. I need to charge it in Host mode to connect USB-Devices(Accessories). I attached picture.

Problem is when android tablet is charging it is going to accessory mode

Tablet has USB-C connector(with PD) for charging and data.

I wonder if Cypress has some IC's which can help

Hello,

Please kindly take a look CCG4 dock reference design. https://www.cypress.com/documentation/reference-designs/ez-pd-ccg4-usb-type-c-monitordock-solution

Based on this reference design, you need pick up, CCG4, DMC, PS8742B, and USB2.0 Hub.

Best Regards,

Lisa

Hello ,

The reference design you shared is based in CCG2, it is also can achieve your requirements, but this solution is higher BOM Cost and without firmware SDK support. That's why I share CCG4 dock reference design for you.

Yes. No problem to support Accessory mode and still see USB devices.

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for your response.

Will it be easy if there is no PD, just charging with 5V?

So main problem is that Android Tablet will go to Accessory mode if it charging but we need it in Host mode. Because only in a host mode Android will see other USB devices through Hub

Hello ,

As per Type-C specification, the Type-C interface is separately on power and data, so that power sink with data host is not a problem. But this needs PD controller to initial power role swap or data role swap, otherwise, the power source is data host by default as per Type-C specification.

Hello,

But a lot of Android phones and tablets does not have PD but has USB-C connector. Does it mean that they always will be accessory when  they are charging?

Hi

When it is charged by Type-C port, it shall Device role -- USB device, DisplayPort Sink, TBT device and so on.
