Hi!
Is there a way of enabling PPS on CYPD4226-based dock? Now with the standard finally coming out in products we get customer requests for this. We have a progarmmable DC/DC VBUS already in place. Noticed when we enable CCG_PPS_SRC_ENABLE that there is a stack call for dpm_pps_task(port) which doesn't seem to be available in the CYPD4226/Host SDK, only in the Power SDK.
Is there any hardware dependency towards the CCG3PA chipsets for this to work? Noted in the product feature matrix that it was only CCG3PA that supported PPS, but isn't this something that could be implemented with additional SW and maybe HW using CCG4-based designs? Or you are not planning to release a lib for CCG4 that has the required PPS support?
We are typically looking at the 3.3V-5.9V and 3.3-11V PPS ranges.
Cheers
Olof

Hi Olof,
CCG4 firmware SDK cannot support PPS currently. And the schedule of adding PPS support into CCG4 is not planned. If you are urgent for this, you could try to use CCG3PA on your end which is supporting PPS by default.
We are so sorry for any inconvenience.
Best Regards,
Lisa

Hi Olof,
Since CCG4 is target for HOST, and HOST is not requirements for PPS source supply requirements on terminal products, for example Notebook.
May I know the applications on CCG4 for this requirements?
Best Regards,
Lisa

Hi Lisa!
We use CCG4 for dock, based on the Cypress CCG4 dock ref design. As such, you need PPS both for the docking USB-C port (since Android phones now support desktop docking) and the secondary port which typically used to charge the mobile via the dock. Especially now with the new generation of mobile phone with very larg batteries (e.g. Samsung Ultra 5G) and PPS charging up to 45W customers wants this.
We use Southchip DC/DC converter with support for 20mV programmable voltage control, so supporting PPS from that point of view is simple.
Would it be possible to get a custom FW for CCG4 where you have enabled PPS (we are under NDA). Or are there any HW requirements for support PPS which is not available on CYPD4226.
Cheers
Olof
