Air gap in Mutual Cpacitance buttons

Hello,

I'm designing mutual capacitance buttons and there is no reference to the air gap between the segments.

I came to the conclusion that the air gap is equal to the thickness of the overlay.

Is this assumption correct?

The air gap is 0.25mm.
