Hi, I have a EVM kit for HX3PD. Is there a way or firmware that can be loaded to enable configuring Upstream (US) USB port to be a PD sink? i.e., When we connect the US port to a USB PD wall charger, we would like to see if high voltage charging (9V, 12V or 20V) can be negotiated properly.
Thanks

Hi Xiang,
Since HX3PD is still under development, the current firmware does not support powering the hub from US port. The board has to be powered using the 24 V DC power jack.
The US port currently accepts to sink at 5V but at 0 Amps (meaning no power is sinked) just before sending a PR_swap. Thus it ultimately tries to become the source. Please refer the release notes provided with the kit files for more info on this: http://www.cypress.com/documentation/reference-designs/hx3pd-evaluation-board
After complete development and testing, the full version of firmware will be released that can be configured.
The HX3PD configuration utility will be updated to provide configuration option as well.
Thanks and regards,
Rajath

Thanks Rajath.
Does that mean that eventually I can configure HX3PD to be a sink at (12V@3A for example) when the full ver of fw is released?
Do you have an estimated timeline for this new fw availability?

Yes, eventually it will be fully configurable.
The product development team is working to provide the full version as soon as possible. It may take a month or two to release the fully tested and funcional FW.
