Could you let us know where you read that? You cannot use 20707 as 20706 or vice-versa.
However, both the 20707 and 20706 have similars development kits.
Note that the CYW20707 with an external host has not been released to the broad market and as such is not supported here on the community.
Please work with your local CY team that set you up as an early adopter to arrange support for this device.
The CYW20706 is fully supported in the Broad Market.
I have highlighted the excerpt.
My understanding was that the CYW92070xV3_EVAL board has a special 20707 which can function as either a 20707 or a 20706.
Please correct me if I am wrong here.
Yes, the two development kits are almost identical.
However, while I fully understand the similarities between the two devices from an architectural perspective, the 20707 and an external BT host is not supported in the broad market for a variety of reasons. Please reach out to the group at CY that enabled you on this platform and ask that they setup a support path into CY that bypasses the community.
Spoke to the internal team and they confirmed that the CYW92070xV3_EVAL is an old EVK and is not supported any longer for new designs as it uses old revision of the device. There is difference in CYW20706 and CYW20707 device where CYW20706 is capable of running both stack and application while CYW20707 is capable of running only stack and needs an external host. CYW20707 has very limited support and you may contact local Cypress sales contact if your application needs CYW20707. If you are developing with CYW20706, please order CYW920706WCDEVAL Evaluation Kit that has A2 rev of the CYW20706 and is recommended for new design.
