Hello, in the UVC implementation described in this application note, we are having separate crystal oscillators in FX3 board as well as in the image sensor board.  Can we instead have the FX3 clock drive the image sensor's clock so we can do away with crystal oscillator on image sensor?

Since we are already using the GPIF II in synchronous mode with external clock option because the pixel clock from image sensor is used as input clock to the FX3 for video processing, I am not sure if this is possible?  Can someone pls suggest?

Hi Chandar,

I don't think it is possible with FX3. You can provide a clock from the GPIF II interface to the image sensor. But then that interface runs at that particular clock only.

We don’t have that facility on FX3 to provide a clock to the external peripheral and let GPIF II interface work on different clock.

But our USB 2.0 controller (FX2LP) can do that. This is documented in the following application note:

Please look for “CLKOUT” in that application note.

Thanks,

Sai Krishna.
