... I think I found the problem :/
I miss read the label for Port D and had my gound for my probe hooked to 5V. I think I drew to much current and fried the regulator.
Most regulators have internal short circuit protection and
thermal protection. However they are not generally protected
from reverse dumps output to input by overstressing output.
You might have created a shorted cap with some reverse polarity.
Maybe lift the reg output pin and load it a little (it might need a min
load to stay in regulation, look up its datasheet on web) and see
if its still viable.
