I am working at small device maker.

   

Where we are using the CY68013 to product .

   

Two devices that were shipped recently has been returned in failure.

   

I have received reports that D+/D- line is a short circuit. (shorted internally, not by board solder)

   

 

   

What is the cause of a short circuit?

   

Would there a way to protect on the circuit?

   

 

   

for past few years, problems did not occurred.

Do you have ESD diodes connected to the D+/D- lines ?

No, on D+/D- line just connected directly. no other parts are connected.

You might want to consider adding very low capacitance ESD diodes to D+/D- as this will help protect them against spikes that certainly do exist in the real world. This may or may not be the cause of your problem but if you have to get your product through CE or similar then you'll very likely fail the ESD immunity tests (8kV contact/15kV air discharge)
