I'd like to use the CYBLE-022001 in my wearable gadget design.

The BLE modem functions to transmit serial data to a smartphone.

Does this module default to a basic COM interface?

Other radios come pre-programmed with UART 9600 BAUD Slave mode firmware.

Is there a similar option for CYBLE-022001, or will it need to be flashed?

Welcome in the forum, Dean.

This module is not pre-programmed at all. All what you want to use must be programmed by you.

That were the bad news.

The good news are: There is virtually nothing you cannot program into a PSoC. Well, a bit swaggered but there are so many components for you to use, starting with communications (I2C, SPI, UART...) over analogs (ADC, DAC, CapSense...) to digital functions (Quad cecoder, timer, counter, PWM, FF...) and even more. And all those components are running in hardware!!!

That's PSoC.

Hello. Thank you.

Will CY3217 work to program the CYBLE-022001 ?

No, the CY3217 Miniprog1 is for programming the PSoC1 family. You will need a Miniprog3. Cheapest will be to get it in a bundle with a development kit as the touch-mouse

OK, I ordered one. I'm looking forward to learning PRoC, and also this cool capacitive touch mouse.

Thanks for your help.

PRoC is the "little brother" of PSoC. the PSoC has got much more internal hardware blocks than a PRoC. I would additionally consider to put a BLE development Kit on your Christmas whish list if you haen't got one yet.

I hope not to stress your budget...
