Yes, it is a large family of PSoCs....
Because of the large flexibility of the PSoC's internals it is not possible to name a device. There are no direct replacements for a PSoC1 in one of the other families. So I would suggest you to get hands on one of the PSoC5 kits starting with a CY8CKIT-059 will be best, quite universal. A CY8CKIT-044 as a new PSoC4 member or the CY8CKIT-050 are the best to start with. And there is of course the BlueTooth family with the Pioneer BLE kit when you need BLE connectivity.
