It seems like all of the ones I find on Amazon use the Realtek 8153, which has tremendously buggy mac support in my experience.

Hi,

Cypress's CYUSB3610 (GX3) is a good alternative for Realtek 8153. You can consult the manufacturer if they use Cypress products.
