Hi,

I want to use the EZ-USB FX3 for a novel application. I want to send known data over a simplex asynchronous serial link and analyse the BER performance of the physical layer and transmission media. Is it easy enough (I have a short time frame) to use the EZ-USB FX3 to send known data and can a second FX3 be used at the receiver to sample the data and save it to a USB HD or computer (i.e. is there a gui/sw/fw available to get something like this up and running)?

Cheers,

Shaun

Hi Shaun,

Yes, it is feasiable. You can refer to Table 6 of datasheet for the AC specification of CY7C65213. There's a requirement for the rise and fall time of signal.

Eddie

Hi Shaun,

FX3 should be capable of doing that. In fact, you don't need FX3 to transfer USB data to Uart. We have dadicated chip for that-CY7C65213 :

USB 2.0 is fast enough to take care of the data speed of Uart.

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for pointing this chip out. I was having a look at the design guide (https://www.cypress.com/file/123286/download) and I wasn't quite sure what the logic levels are at the output TXD and the expected logic level at the receiver RXD. Are they high 3.3 V and low 0 V at both the TXD and RXD?

I want to do what is in step 5 of the quick start guide (https://www.cypress.com/file/123291/download). So have a laptop connected to the TX chip and then condition the output of the UART for my components. Send the file over the physical layer and then condition then received signal for UART and go into chip and laptop and see the text file. Or create a binary file and do a BER measurement in a similar fashion. Does this sound feasible? PS is there a noise figure for sending the data and a minimum SNR for the received data?

Thanks in advance,

Shaun
