Hello!

Our company recently purchased a CY4609 interface development board through the authorized CYPRESS store. The power supply was overloaded accidentally and the rated voltage was 5V, but the actual use was 12V. Currently, the development board cannot work normally.

Can it be repaired?Which IC might burn out?

Thanks!

Hi,

I did not mean to ask you to press SW1 while measuring TP12 ( I was referring to Power Switch). Please measure TP12 without pressing SW1.

If TP12 is still 3.3 volts, last option is to replace Zero Ohm resistor and also try placing it across 2-3 instead of 1-2;

If this still does not work, there is high chance that the internal power circuitry powered from VBUS_DS pin#18 has rendered the HX3 chip damaged and unusable.

Regards,

Rajath

Hello,

From the image you have shown, both the Power (PWR) and Suspend (SUSP) LEDs are ON, indicating that the power domains are up and HX3 IC is getting powered. Additionally, you can check Testpoints TP5 and TP6, you should see 3.3 and 1.2 volts respectively. You can also check the voltage at the reset pin by measuring at switch SW1.

Also, can you please elaborate on what issues you are exactly seeing?

Rajath

Hello,

It looks like the power switch TPS2556DRBT (U5) has fried because of excessive input voltage (100% excess). You can replace that part and see if the board works normally.

Hello,

We have replaced a new power switch TPS2556DRBT (U5). The measurement result of electrification is the same as before. There is no voltage output of TP3. USB3.0 interface is still unable to check the signal.

What other possible reasons?

Thanks!

Can you please check voltages on

1) TP12 (EN of PWR Switch)

2) TP11 (Fault/OVRCUR of PWR switch)

3) Voltage across the Zero Ohm resistor DPR1 0603

4) Voltage on the terminal #2 of the Zero Ohm resistor DPR1 0603

Please set J6 and J7 to 1-2 (internal ROM mode).

Hi

Our hardware colleague thinks that the main chip of HX3 should be burned out, so we need to buy the main chip for replacement and confirmation.

Thanks!
