USB EZ-PD™ Type-C Forum Discussions
As shown in attached picture: the original dock is very simple.
Now the dock would be modified for accessing Ethernet via an USB to Ethernet controller and being charged simultaneously. Is it possible to make it happen? Because I am worrying about that Android device is sourcing current when it is working with USB to Ethernet controller as a host, if there is current from charging adaptor/computer/tablet, will they be conflict? Any IC could solve this?
Thanks.
Show LessHi, I am complete newbie to Cypress/PSoC. I wish to evaluate the CYPD3177 BCR using CY4533 kit and change PDO via i2c interface. Can the low cost CY8CKIT-059 with snap-off KitProg work with EZ-PD BCR HPI Utility? Will it allow me to change the internal PDO registers? Help is greatly appreciated.
About the Min. value of Table5 DC Spec VDDD for CCG3PA
Q1.
It uses VDDD as 3.3V output only with I2C pull-up power supply.
Since the above parameter value is an input voltage specification, is it correct to understand that "above value" does not apply when using VDDD only for the output voltage as I2C pull-up supply?
Q2.
In the DC characteristics(SID PWR#5: VCCD), only the Typ value of VCCD is described in the data sheet, but please tell me MIN and MAX value.
Best Regards

Hi!
We have been using the firmware from the CCG4 dock reference design for a while (with some changes). In that firmware, there is a solution where a power role swap and data role swap is initiated by the dock depending on which initial role the laptop will get to:
us_initiate_pr_swap(port);
us_initiate_dr_swap(port);
The design of this is that when the dock gets a PD Contract ready and the role should change, it schedules a request to change role which is then handled in the main loop at a later stage.
Problem is that in certain situations, the laptop will also trigger the power or data role swap between the point where the swap is scheduled in the sln_pd_event_handler and when the actual role swap is sent out via
dpm_pd_command (port, DPM_CMD_SEND_DR_SWAP, NULL, us_dr_swap_cb);
dpm_pd_command (port, DPM_CMD_SEND_PR_SWAP, NULL, us_pr_swap_cb);
This will often result in a failure to correctly initiate alt-mode video by the laptop. This case is very timing based and laptop-model based so can be a bit hard to test if you don't have the specific device.
We have made some additional checks in the code to try to deal with this, but it there should be a more robust (better integrated with the main DPM state machine) and standardized way of handling these scenarios we believe.
Is there a newer or different firmware targeting docks / UFP-devices?
Important to note here is also that we need to have the dock configured as DRP and as default SINK to ensure robust docking for some other laptops models. Hence the need to have a robust solution for DR/PR swaps.
Cheers

Show LessHi!
Choosing among the parts in the CCG-series, most ref-designs for PD source applications are using the CCG3, that said, I haven't found any ref-designs using the newer CCG5,6,7 parts.
What parts (or ref design) would be the best choice when designing the following:
- Type-C PD sink input (5-20V, 65W)
- this is coming from a standard ac/dc like a laptop PSU
- Dual Type-C PD source outputs (5-20V ~20W each)
- these must support individual vbus rails on each jack
The two type-c source outputs can use fixed PDO's, but support for PPS would be even nicer.
Please advice, thanks!
Show LessHi,
I am looking for second source component for CYPD 3177 and I found CYPD 3171 having all the functions I need and they have the same package case and footprint.
However, they seem to have different pin function.
I am wonder if there is any way that can replace CYPD 3177 with CYPD 3171?
Thank you
Show LessHi, Sir,
1. Could you please provide us the command line too for CCG3 FW update?
2. We need a command line for FW updating that also can specify VID/PID , becuase we will modify CCG3's billboard's VID/PID

Show LessHi!
We are looking (again) at developing a DisplayPort 1.2 Input + USB 3.0 Input to USB-C (DFP) adapter. The CCG3 Host reference design is more or less the design we are looking at, but we had one key question:
If we want to allow Pin Assignment D (2 lanes DP and 2 lanes USB 3), will that work when a upstream laptop is connected via legacy DisplayPort 1.2 cable? Will that laptop get information via AUX that it should provide only 2 lanes DP? Since the laptop will not be part of the PD signalling regarding C or D pin assignment.
What we "fear" is that the laptop will always default to 4 lanes DP on the DP output and not be informed about the need to only deliver 2 lane DP on lane 0 and 1.
Since Cypress host reference design has a DP 1.2 input and it apperently works when connecting a laptop via a DP cable to it, maybe it is not a problem?

Show LessHello support team,
I hope you are doing well. We are implementing the USB C (from apple MAC) to USB 3.0 Gen 1 hub along with HDMI port with 4K @ 30Hz. In our case we are will sinking from the laptop and on our side we will only get power from laptop USB-C. We have already selected rest of the chips except the cross switch for USB and DP lines along with PD Alt mode IC. Can you please suggest the options that are in-stock and can easily be sourced?
I was looking at CYPD1120 (PD Alt Mode controller) but it is no where available, we would like to know if Cypress has any alternative that we can use?
Secondly, do you have any recommendation for the sink switch? I am reviewing cypress USB-C based development board reference design where you are using PS8742B as sink switch. In our case if you don't have a direct part for the switch then please confirm if your PD controller will support the DP Alt Mode for TI based cross switches like TUSB564RNQT?
Lastly, if our USB hub chip supports billboard then can we skip the separate billboard IC to reduce the board space and cost? Please note that we are using USB5806/KD from Microchip.
Kind regards,
Muhammad Awais
