EZ-USB® HX3PD custom configuration

Hi All,

i have a question if it is possible to configure HX3PD as following:

1) upstream port with PD controller in US port to always be presented as 12V or 15V 3A device?

is this set in FW or with HW strap pins? How can be this done?

2) configure 2 downstream ports DS1 and DS2 without PD but as USB-Type-C 5V 3A capable ports?

is this set in FW or with HW strap pins? How can be this done?

So i have a DS port on a PC with PD (type C), and when i connect HX3PD to it via Hx3PD upstream port i want get on the VBUS from PC either 12V 3A or 15V 3A is this possible?

And then i have a DCDC from 12V or 15V to 5V can i use this 5V then for V5P0_P0 and V5P0 (pin E7) ?

OR do i need to power this V5P0 from somewhere else?

Hi,

1) Yes it is possible to configure the PDOs from the HX3PD Configuration Utility: https://www.cypress.com/documentation/software-and-drivers/ez-usb-hx3pd-configuration-utility

Please make sure to keep a 5V PDO also in your configuration as per the USB PD specification. You can add the other PDO with it and save the configuration.

2) For disabling PD for DS1, you can do it in the HX3PD firmware present in the Dock SDK: https://www.cypress.com/documentation/reference-designs/ez-pd-ccgx-usb-type-c-monitordock-solution

3) For the power system, please refer to section 2.1 in the HX3PD Hardware Design Guidelines
