First question asked Welcome!

We need to measure the level of a water-based cleaning solution in a consumable HDPE bottle, of wall thickness ~1mm. The consumable bottle will be docked into another plastic receptacle, either Polypropylene or HDPE or approximately 2mm thick.

We want to mount a segmented sensor to the outside of the receptacle, and measure the liquid level inside the consumable.

The wall of the consumable and the wall of the receptacle should be in contact with each other, but a small air gap is possible (<1mm)

We need to know if this is feasible, given the correct sensor design? We would be looking for a level resolution of 100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and empty.

Thanks.

Hello @mikee

Can you please provide a few more details...

1. Would the consumable bottle deform once the liquid solution is used up?

2. Would it be possible to place the sensors in the inner side of the plastic receptacle - effectively making the distance between the sensors and the solution = <1mm (airgap) + 1mm consumable bottle?

3. What is the length and width of the board where the sensors can be placed?

4. Would it be possible to place the sensors on opposite sides of the container so that we can have a design as shown below?

5. Would it be possible to design such that there is no air gap - maybe with some padding on the sides- This is because CapSense sensors perform much better when there is no air gap since the non-uniformity of the air inside is eliminated.

Hari
