Question:
Does GX3 function normally if connected to a USB 2.0 port? What are the throughput numbers when connected to a USB 2.0 port and USB 3.0 port?
Answer:
If a GX3 device is connected to USB 2.0 port, it will function normally. If a Gigabit Ethernet network is connected to the RJ45 connector of the GX3, GX3 will function in Gigabit mode if connected to a Gigabit network but with limited throughput because USB 2.0 is the bottleneck. It will work fine if connected to a 100/10 Mbps Ethernet network without USB being a bottleneck
If connected to a USB 3.0 port, the GX3 will provide a throughput of around 940 Mbps (Megabits per second) with jumbo frames enabled; if connected to a USB 2.0 port, it will provide a throughput of around 275 Mbps (with jumbo frames enabled). With jumbo frames disabled, the throughput is around 900 Mbps if connected to a USB 3.0 port and it is around 265 Mbps if connected to a USB 2.0 port.
