Is it possible, if the external device can be taken apart to find the correct connections to monitor, that the psoc 4 pioneer kit could be used to monitor that signal and do something from that?

Basically looking to see if i could use my pioneer kit to monitor a fish feeder and notify when it fed the fish..

Not looking for anything fancy, like this one:

www.element14.com/community/community/raspberry-pi/raspberrypi_projects/blog/2013/11/09/raspberry-pi...

just want to know that it did its job when it was suppose to, now maybe after getting that setup, i add all the bells and whistles, but short i just want something to tell me it worked. Going on a trip for a week and want to make sure everything is working while we are out..

thanks..

        Sorry, could not resist.
Long answer: sure, just use the PSoC top measure whatever you need it to measure. ADCs are there, digital inputs, comparators, amplifiers, whatever you need. For sending email you need an additional Ethernet / WiFi module. But there are plenty available (e.g. the Wiznet ones, or the new ESP2866), you just need to write a driver for them.

great thanks, i will research those modules..

So if for phase 1, i wanted to just go hard wired instead of wifi, could it communicate via the USB cable that is powering the board?

The short answer is no, the USB on the PSOC 5LP can only act as a slave.

However there are host USB adapter boards for Arduino pinout that you could

piggyback and use.

Regards, Dana.

So reviewing the project list again( i have played around with some of those projects)

#4 and #5 are the only ones that mention and show interfacing with USB, so ill review those and see if they help me proceed.

thanks..

Serious project from E2ForLife.com
For PSoC4 and W5100      here
For PSoC4 and ESP8266  such a simple project  PSoC4_ESP8266_ST_WDT.zip   here
For PSoC4 and GSM modem SIM900 have a   project here   PSoC4: GSM Modem
I hope that you have time before you leave to make your project
In addition, there are cameras with contacts management.
For example, this: DCS-5222L

Well it will be 3 weeks before leaving, BUT fail safe is having someone check in every few days.. but having the the piece of mind is really why i want to try and create this..

the camera would be a cool add-on, but i dont need to watch or look for the fish, it would be nice to take a pic of the dispensed food to make sure its working correctly. I mean knowing that it executed is good, but seeing that the right amount was given is a def plus..

thank you for the links..

Here is the unit id like to interact with

"eheim everyday fish feeder"

After looking up the manual, its not as helpful as i would have thought, but it runs on 2 AA batteries.

I may try to find a used one to open up and mess around with to make sure it ca be done..

You can also use the USBUART component to communicate with a PC (or something running Linux).

So i got the projects building and spitting out data to the USBUART and can see the data represented there. So i was trying to find some information on writing a small and simple c# application that can interact with that output do what i need/want with the data.

Since its using a COMPORT, can i simply create my app to work with that communication?

Is there somethign im overlooking or missing prior to jumping over to the c# application?

Yes, USBUART looks like a regular serial port on the other end.
