Hi All,

If i try to join a AP (e.g., my home router) with wrong password, i will still see log reporting that the join was successful but ofcourse it won't be able to obtain correct IP address. The problem is that i'm not sure what are the best way to determine if it's wrong password or other issues... If i request an IP address I will still get some value such as 32.0.2.1... However, i can't use this as criteria to determine if it's wrong password. Can anyone share how to properly determine if its wrong password or something else after WICED join network? thanks in advance.

Hi

Can you share your log?

When I use test.console application and join command, I get the following:

> join Gangi wpa2 12345678

Joining : Gangi

Failed to join: Gangi

Joining : Gangi

Failed to join: Gangi

Joining : Gangi

Failed to join: Gangi

Let me know how you are doing it.

What security type does the AP have?

It is impossible for a client to know whether the WEP pass key is wrong. The protocol doesn't allow this.

WPA/WPA2 definitely report failed connection attempts if the password is wrong as Greg demonstrated.

Hi

As I have heard, WICED doesn't support WEP.

Please check it.

My question is partially answered by Jasonrc, thanks!

I confirm WEP will still join the network even if the password is not valid... Non WEP will NOT/FAILED to join network if password is incorrect. However, that least to a question how to determine (simplest way) if password is incorrect for WEP...

Maybe it's connected because the chip uses one of the AP credentials previously recorded on its memory.

Did you completely erased the DCT before testing?

There is NO WAY for the client to know if the WEP join succeeded or not.

The protocol does not allow for this.

Here's a tip: DO NOT USE WEP! You may as well give your bank account details to a thief now and be done with it.
