How to be friends? (aka, are our names 4-letter words?)

Hi,

Recently I noticed an interesting phenomenon.

I can see some (actually most) of my colleague's full names.

But some are displayed as 4 letter words with  numbers.

Today I chatted with one person whose full name is not displayed to me.

And I found that he sets the privacy level of his name as "Friends."

I've been following him and he just started following me today.

But still his full name is not shown.

I also found another colleague, with whom both of us are following each other,

but his full name is not displayed, either.

So I wonder how we can be "Friends?"

Do we need to have lunch together 5 times or something like that?
