Looking to confirm what Apple and QC charge modes the CCG3 supports - from page 184 of the TRM there is a fuzzy picture and it looks like Apple 1A and Apple 2A modes but no support for Apple 2.4A (although CCG3PA seems to support this?), is there a definitive list of what Apple and QC modes are supported.

Hi,

The CCG3 firmware contained in SDK do NOT support any Apple Charge or QC charge. You'll need to implement customized firmware to realized that.

Hi Eddie,

Thanks for your response - are you able to detail which exact modes are support by the hardware inside the part assuming firmware is written to support that?

Regards

David.

Thanks Eddie,

This was not clear in the datasheet, TRM or other documents so it is good to have it confirmed for CCG3.

Cheers

David.

Hi David,

If you really want to achieve QC and Apple charge, I still recommend you choose CCG3PA. That would be much easier and cost saving.

Eddie

Hi Eddie,

It looks like CCG3PA would be suitable for DFP too but has no crypto functionality and less flash. Is there any reason to choose CCG3 over CCG3PA over the other for a DFP/Source product that has PD3.0 and BC1.2/proprietary charging?

Regards
David.

Hi David,

The key difference between CCG3 and CCG3PA is that CCG3 has a integrated USB 2.0 device controller capable of functioning as a Billboard device. But it is a waste in charger and power bank designs. CCG3PA comes after CCG3 and is made for charger and power banks. So, we do not recommend our customer use CCG3 in their charger or power banks any more except for special requirement.

Regards,
Eddie
