Hello,
Today has arrived my CYUSB3KIT-003 EZ-USB FX3 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit and I need to interface to an FPGA.
The basic idea of the connection is the following:
FPGA => CYUSB3KIT-003 through GPIF II => USB (2.0 or 3.0) storage device.
Then I read into the UG (https://www.cypress.com/file/133836/download 😞
"The SuperSpeed Explorer Kit development board is powered from the USB 3.0 connector J1. This development board does not support self-powered mode, although the FX3 device does support it."
So what is the correct way to supply power to the board in case of using a USB storage device connected to J1 ? Isn't it possible to work this way ?
Thanks.
Regards,
simozz

Hi Simozz,
The best way to power CYUSB3014 is via USB as there is no provision for self-power mode on the EZ-USB FX3 SuperSpeed Explorer Kit.
You will have to make your custom board with the self-power mode enabled to be able to configure FX3 as a USB Host.
You can refer to the following schematics for the FX3 DVK board and make your own custom board: https://www.cypress.com/file/126101/download
The above .zip file has the kit schematic files and you can follow it to make a board which is capable of working on self-power and then implement your application.

Looking better at the AN70707 (https://www.cypress.com/file/139936/download ) and from schematics (https://www.cypress.com/file/133841/download ) the best way is to power it from USB.
AN65974 also specify that the card can be connected to a USB Host device but not to an USB device.
