S29AL016J- RY/BY# pin connected to GND

Planning to use S29AL016J70TFI020 16Mbit flash in one of our existing product. The existing chip used on the board need pin 15 to be connected to GND. We need the new flash to be a complete drop-in with no hardware change. Is grounding pin 15 (Ry/By#) going to affect the design and the S29 in terms of functionality and reliability?

Hi Jithesh,

It won't be a problem to connect RY/BY# pin directly to ground. But, we have not tested this condition and cannot guarantee proper operation of our device. We suggest you to test this condition and check the power consumption of our device with RY/BY# pin directly connected to ground.

Hi,

RY/BY# is an output pin and we do not recommend to connect this pin directly to GND. RY/BY# pin help user to understand whether the device is busy or not. It is an open drain pin and it is recommended to connect a pull up resistor to VCC on this pin.

Yes, I did see the recommendation in the documentation. We do not have a scope to change the board layout as of now. What is the consequence if we Gnd this pin? We are also not using the Ready/busy data.
