Hi,

My team is developing embedded device that uses CYBLE-022001-00. We want to replace current module with CYBLE-222005-00 since it has twice as much flash and ram. In datasheet it says "Drop-in compatible with CYBLE-022001-00 and includes additional VREF input". On our pcb design VREF pin is floating, it's not connected.

Module has been replaced on 8 custom boards and we are experiencing these problems:

- Our CY8CKIT-042-BLE PIONEER BASEBOARD that we use as programmer doesn't detect modules (on 7 custom boards).

- On one board we can detect module and program it, but connection breaks sporadically in debug mode and it seems like firmware on module is not running.

- All our custom boards worked perfectly with CYBLE-022001-00.

Regarding this we have few questions.

Is there some critical differences between these two modules, except additional VREF pin? Is it mandatory to connect VREF pin? Do you have some recommendation regarding detecting and debugging problems we are experiencing? Another module that is drop-in compatible is CYBLE-222014-01, should we consider testing our boards with this module - should that give us different results?

Dusan

Hello,

Do you have miniprog3. If yes can you try acquiring the device with that?

Thanks,

Hi Hima,

Unfortunately we don't have miniprog3. We use CY8CKIT-042-BLE and we don't have any problems with CYBLE-022001-00 module. We use SWD protocol.

Is there a difference between miniprog3 and CY8CKIT-042-BLE? Is there some reason why this could be a problem?

Hello Dusan,

The kit uses kitprog and miniprog is a different hardware. Some options like powercycle mode is not available in kitprog.

1)Can you check the kit prog version?

2)Can you check ECO Capacitance Trim Values for EZ-BLE™ Modules - KBA218990 . Are you selecting the right trim value?

3)Are you facing issue on all boards or only some of the boards?

4)Are you powering the board by kitprog or an external supply?

Thanks,

Hima

Hello Hima,

Here are answers:

1) KitProg Version 2.20
2) Example that we tried didn't use BLE component(or ECO). So I assume that's not a problem.

3) We are facing an issue on all of the boards. We can detect module on only one board and program it, but on the others we can't detect the module. The one we are able to program seems like it's not running firmware and when in debug mode connection breaks sporadically.

4) We are powering board externally with stable 3.0 VDC.

Thanks,
Dusan
