RSSI operation is explained in some detail within this thread: Re: How to get RSSI level for all devices being scanned
This applied to both the SOC and the SIP module as it is firmware based.

The part supports RSSI, but as tjaekel explains here: RSSI for distance measurement, there are inherant limitations when using RSSI for distance measurements.

My understanding is that RSSI capabilities are built into the firmware that runs on all BCM2073X devices from the factory. However, I do not believe the WICED Sense Application uses RSSI.
