Answer: The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) issues Vendor IDs specific to each company that develops USB products. You must obtain a VID from them. You may only use the Cypress VID for development purposes.
Once you have acquired your own VID you can assign Product IDs (PIDs) as you see fit; the USB-IF recommends each vendor set up a coordinated allocation scheme for PIDs so different teams don't inadvertently choose the same PID for different products. Duplicate numbers will cause compliance testing to fail.
