Here are the settings needed to use an external 32 KHz crystal:

1.   In Global Resources, set 32K_Select to External and PLL Mode to Ext Lock.
2.   In the Pinout window, for P1[0] change Select to XtalOut and for P1[1] change Select to XtalIn.
