Process for Qualifying a Bluetooth Product - KBA210711

Version: *A

Question:

How do I get my BLE product qualified?

Answer:

Bluetooth Qualification (Qualification) is the process of testing a Bluetooth product against the Bluetooth specification at Bluetooth Qualification Test Facilities (BQTF) resulting in the assignment of a Qualification Design ID (QDID).

Declaration ID is the unique serial number purchased from Bluetooth SIG and assigned to the company’s product prior to Declaration.

Declaration is the signed document stating that a company’s product uses a BLE design qualified by the Bluetooth SIG with an assigned QDID.

Listing allows the company to use Bluetooth logos and lists the product on the Bluetooth SIG website.

  1. Purchase a Declaration ID

    1. Generate the invoice from your SIG login account to buy a Declaration ID.
    2.
    3. Make the payment (credit card, invoice). A Declaration ID is assigned to you and available in your login.
    4.
    5. Optional) Transfer the Declaration ID to any person in your organization who will do the Listing.
  2. Create a Listing
    1. Start the Listing Process (Figure 1) in your login. Check Reference a Qualified Design.

    2. Enter the End Product QDID for Cypress’s EZ-BLE™ Module.
    3. Add Cypress’s Profile Subsystem QDID if you are referencing Cypress’s Profile Listing.
    4. Assign the Declaration ID.
    5. Choose a listing date.
  3. Sign the Declaration

    1. Check the Declaration box.
    2.
    3. Print the SDoC and Declaration of Conformance (DoC).
    4.
    5. Get the SDoC and DoC signed by a duly authorized member of your company.
    6.
    7. Store the scanned copies in the compliance folder.
    8.
    9. Review the listing information.
    10.
    11. Submit for Listing.
    12.
    13. Refer to the Bluetooth brand guide to learn how to use the Bluetooth logos and word mark.

1.2 How do I get my BLE product qualified if I am using Cypress’s BLE silicon?

There are two possible scenarios depending upon how you use the Cypress’s BLE silicon.

Scenario 1 – Using the silicon and referencing Cypress’s End Product QDID for silicon

In this case, you do one or more of the following:

  1. Using the BLE modules supplied with Cypress’s BLE Pioneer Kit in your product.
  2. Referencing the schematics and layout provided for the BLE modules supplied with Cypress’s BLE pioneer Kit.
  3. Making minor changes to the electrical circuit with the assessment confirming that the changes do not change the compliance status of the design, or making changes to the electrical circuit and confirming that the compliance is not impacted by running the RF/PHY tests at a BQTF.

Scenario 2 – Using the silicon and creating your own End Product QDID by inheriting the evidence from Cypress’s Component QDIDs

In this case, you are doing one or both of the following:

  1. Making electrical circuit changes to the qualified design that impact the RF-PHY compliance.
  2. Modifying the supported features of the link layer or host.

Step1: Qualification

  1. Create a Traditional Qualified Project (TPG)
    1. Create a new project (Figure 2) in your Bluetooth SIG account for End Product QDID. This assigns the QDID.
    2. In Project Options, select Combine with QDID (Figure 4).  Select Cypress’s LL QDID.

    3. Repeat the above step with Cypress’s Stack/Host QDID.
    4. Complete feature selection; i.e., ICS for all layers.
    5. Choose a Product Type.
    6. Do a consistency check.
    7. Generate the test plan.
  2. Perform Testing

    1. Perform testing against the test plan at a BQTF for RF-PHY.
    2.
    3. Perform testing in-house for Protocol Stack and Profiles using Profile Tuning Suite (PTS).
    4.
    5. Generate test logs and test reports.
    6.
    7. Create the test declaration document.
    8.
    9. (Optional) Review the evidence with a Bluetooth Qualification Expert (BQE) like AT4-wireless.
  3. File Documentation

    1. Upload the evidence to Bluetooth SIG against the project.
    2.
    3. Create a compliance folder.
    4.
    5. Store ICS, IXIT, Test evidence, RIN, and SDoC.

Step 2: Declaration

  1. Purchase a Declaration ID

    1. Generate the invoice from your SIG login account to buy a Declaration ID
    2.
    3. Make the payment (credit card, invoice). A Declaration ID is assigned to you and available in your login.
    4.
    5. (Optional) Transfer the Declaration ID to any person in your organization who will do the Listing.
  2. Create Listing

    1. Start the Listing Process in your login.
    2.
    3. Enter your End Product QDID. Add Cypress’s Profile subsystem QDID if you are referencing Cypress’s Profile Listing.
    4.
    5. Provide a design description and product description.
    6.
    7. Add one or more products.
    8.
    9. Assign the Declaration ID and choose the Listing date.
  3. Sign Declarations
