Question: What is the definition and purpose of AEC-Q100?
Answer: AEC-Q100 is a set of qualification test sequences for integrated circuits developed by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC). AEC-Q100 establishes common part-qualification and quality-system standards for automotive electronics and is the industry-standard specification that outlines the recommended new product and major change qualification requirements and procedures for packaged integrated circuits embedded into automotive applications.
See AEC-Q100 specifications at http://www.aecouncil.com/AECDocuments.html.
Products that are qualified for automotive applications meet the AEC-Q100 requirements and may be labeled with the following automotive temperature grades in Table 1.
Table 1. Automotive Temperature Grades
|Grade||Ambient operating temperature range|
|0||-40°C to +150°C|
|1||40°C to +125°C|
|2||-40°C to +105°C|
|3||-40°C to +85°C|
NOTE: Cypress currently offers Grade-1, Grade-2, and Grade-3 as AEC-Q100 ordering options.
