Question: What is the difference between standby mode and data retention mode?
Answer:
In the standby mode the part is deselected but has the same supply voltage. In the dataretention mode the part is deselected but the part can be supplied with a voltage which is way lower than the supply voltage, which is equal to the dataretention voltage(given in the datasheet), this helps in saving some power if your using the part in battery critical applications.
