Power measurements for low power modes of PSoC 3/5 on CY8CKIT-001

Question: I want to test the low power mode current consumption on PSoC3/5. How should I measure it on CY8CKIT-001?

Answer:

To measure the actual current sonsumed by PSoC3/5 several adjustments need to be done as explained below.

1. Remove jumpers  J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7, J8 to avoid currnet leakage.

2. A DC voltage supply should be provided to VDDA, VDDD and VIOs by connecting to the center pins of jumpers J6, J7, J2, J3, J4 and J5.

3. LCD power should be turned off by J12.

4. Connect an external 3.3V DC voltage source in series with ammeter to center pin of J7 and one of the GND test points on the kit as shown in the following diagram. This arrangement is made to avoid current drawn by the on board regulator.

Note: It is recommended to use CY8CKIT-030 for PSoC3 and CY8CKIT-050 for PSoC5 to test the power consumption as it is designed for best analog and low power performance.
