PCMCIA Implementation for the CY7C68013/CY7C68013A (FX2/FX2LP)

Question: Can the FX2/FX2LP be used to implement a PCMCIA controller? If so, are there any reference designs or application notes that explain how to do this?

Answer:

Yes. The FX2 can be used to implement the PCMCIA controller. Currently, we do not have any examples or collateral that provide a starting point to implement this. But this can be implemented using the GPIF feature of the FX2.

The FX2 has a feature called the GPIF (The General Programmable InterFace ) which is an extremely flexible 8- or 16-bit parallel interface that can provide a glueless interface between the EZ-USB FX2 and many different types of external peripherals. The GPIF allows the EZ-USB FX to perform local bus mastering to external peripherals using a wide variety of protocols.
