Question:

Migrating from SST25VF064C to S25FL064P, does the 4KB sub-sector erase work in the same manner?

Answer:

The S25FL064P SPI FLASH device consists of 128 uniform 64 kB sectors, with the two (Top or Bottom) 64 kB sectors further split up into thirty-two 4 kB sub sectors. The remaining sectors within the main memory array are dedicated 64KB sectors and do not contain 4KB sub-sectors, and do not support the 4 KB (P4E) sub-sector erase command 20h. These dedicated 64 KB sectors cannot be partially (4 KB) erased. Therefore, depending on the actual sector(s) being erased will determine as to whether or not 4 KB subsector erase is supported.

Only the two top or bottom 64 KB sectors have 4KB sub-sectors and supports the 4 KB (P4E) sub-sector erase command 20h. The SST25VF064C SuperFlash main memory array is organized in uniform 4 KB erasable sectors with 32 KByte overlay blocks and 64 KByte overlay erasable blocks, throughout the entire main memory array.
