What is the implication of using 'Absolute Maximum' Electrical Specifications on Cypress FLASH products? - KBA203382

Version: *A

Question:

What is the implication of using 'Absolute Maximum' Electrical Specifications on Cypress FLASH products?

Answer:

As a reminder, the 'absolute maximum' electrical specifications are not to be confused as 'maximum operating' electrical specifications. Operating any Cypress FLASH memory product at the 'absolute maximum' electrical specifications voids any warranty or guarantee from Cypress, as catastrophic failure of the target application may be imminent. Operating any Cypress FLASH memory outside its stated 'maximum operating' electrical specification, proper operation of the FLASH memory cannot be guaranteed and the end user assumes all responsibility and liability of a potential catastrophic failure of the target application. Although proper operation is not guaranteed while using 'absolute maximum' electrical specifications, the actual purpose of listing the 'absolute maximum' electrical specifications is to provide an approximate value of where erratic operation and/or permanent damage to the FLASH is most likely to occur. Cypress never recommends end customer's to use 'absolute maximum' electrical specifications.
