LSR has just released source code for a new cloud-connected demo for its Sterling-LWB for WICED reference platform! With this release, customers can test out how to connect the Sterling-LWB for WICED to a TiWiConnect cloud server. Section five of the user guide, Sterling-LWB Cloud Sensor Demo Featuring TiWiConnect, has been updated with the latest demo. This section demonstrates the use case of a cloud-connected sensor.


LSR, now a Laird business, developed a sample project that can be used with the Sterling-LWB for WICED expansion carrier board for real-time reporting of accelerometer, gyro, and magnetometer sensor data from an attached STM32F411 Discovery Board to a web and mobile application. The sample code for use with WICED Studio can be downloaded from the Sterling-LWB “Software Downloads” tab (930-0079) of the LSR website. The project source code provides developers an overview of the steps involved when developing a typical BLE+Wi-Fi enabled sensor including:

  • Defining and implementing custom BLE profiles for communicating with a mobile app
    • Simple Sensor Profile
    • Wi-Fi Configuration Profile
    • LIFT Configuration Profile (for provisioning cloud API access)
  • Steps required to assign Wi-Fi credentials to the device over a BLE connection
  • Steps required to assign cloud authentication credentials to the device over a BLE connection
  • Basic driver for interfacing with sensors over I2C and SPI bus and LED control
  • Steps required to post sensor data to a cloud API via HTTP (HTTPS option included)
  • Steps required to receive remote cloud API commands to perform an action (e.g. toggle LEDs)
  • Persistent storage of credentials to Device Configuration Table (DCT) in Flash

Last week LSR, a Laird Business, attended Electronica 2016. In addition to announcing the upcoming 60 Series, we also proudly featured our Cypress based Wi-Fi modules. Innovative Alternatives to AT Command Sets

Leveraging the simplicity of TiWiConnect LIFT device-to-cloud software for embedded Wi-Fi® product design

With the current white-hot trends of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, there is a strong push on product developers to convert their current products into “connected products” by integrating Wi-Fi or another wireless technology. What is TiWi-C-W?

TiWi-C-W is LSR’s new stand-alone 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi module, featuring an ARM Cortex-M3 processor and fully integrated TCP/IP stack on a small footprint (10.5mm x 10.5mm). It is the first module in the LSR portfolio with the pre-integrated cloud agent for the TiWiConnect platform.  It can be utilized in a hostless operation mode by utilizing the on-board ARM processor, or perform in a hosted mode via a simple serial UART interface and TiWiConnect LIFT software.  It is based on Broadcom’s BCM4390 chipset and is supported by the WICED SDK ecosystem. 

TiWi-C-W simplifies the work of adding Wi-Fi connectivity to your products on one of the smallest footprints available, with a breadth of capabilities that ensure a straight-forward integration with your product design, including a pre-loaded cloud connectivity agent for LSR’s TiWiConnect™ platform.  Development time and complexity is dramatically reduced for a hosted application, as LSR’s new TiWiConnect LIFT software offers a simple, intuitive serial protocol for the embedded software developer.
