Indoor Air Quality and Human Health
Most people drink 2-3 liters of water per day. In fact, we inhale from the air we breathe more than 15,000 liters every day and spend 80% of time in indoor environment. Researchers have found a relationship between the levels of the indoor air quality and impacts on human health; Good Indoor air quality allows employees to be more productive, and students are more proficient learning and experience fewer sick days. In contrast, Poor indoor air quality can cause or contribute to the development of infections, respiratory diseases, chronic diseases, allergies, and even stroke and other complications are more common there is an immediate drowsiness, dizziness, headache and other phenomena.
According to the WHO report, frequent indoor pollutants include carbon monoxide caused by the incomplete combustion, carbon dioxide produced by human breath, furnishings as diverse as deteriorated, and products for household cleaning and maintenance, electric equipment, outdoor sources such as radon, pesticides, and outdoor air pollution. Researchers have also show that the relationship between a resident’s health and indoor air quality cannot be ignored, and many countries have regulations in place for controlling indoor air quality.
Air Mentor Detection Capability
Air Mentor can detect concentrations of CO2, VOC together with CO, Particulate matters, temperature, relative humidity as identified in WHO’s report. As the Air Mentor design is based on the heat convection principle, it can detect the pollutants efficiently and in naturally stable way without interfering the living environment.
The device is built using industrial grade sensors and intelligent computing algorithms.
We often suggest to our customers that they place an Air Mentor device in the environment where they work and live as a means to track the air quality changes related to long term health. When Air Mentor is powered by DC input it will turn on all sensors for real-time detection.
Tracking the Surrounding Air Quality by Air Mentor APP
When connecting to the Sensor, Air Mentor APP can show real-time individual measurements and it gives advising for improving the air quality. Air Mentor sensor can record 3 days of measurements; when a Smartphone comes in proximity to the sensor, the APP will automatically connect and download recorded data automatically. Users can check the air quality changes by hour, date, week, and month, and can also mark notes onto the chart for long term tracking and improvement. The Air Mentor application is available on both Google Play and the Apple Store.
Design for Indoor Environment
Air Mentor is designed to be placed on a flat surface (i.e. desk) for long term monitoring. For temporary use you can hang it on a hook mounted on the wall using the provided silicone band. The Air Mentor consumes less than 1.5W power. Real-time air quality indication occurs via the breathing light.
The devices provides 5 color indicators that are aligned with those defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
The frequency of breathing light simulates people’s breathing. When air quality is optimal, the light becomes gentle.
Indoor air quality often changes as both the climate and outdoor air changes. Air quality also depends on household electronic devices, appliances, furniture, decoration, and habits. The Air Mentor research team continuously transfers domain expertise into an efficient, systemically leveraged knowledge base that the Air Mentor APP periodically synchronizes with once connected to the Internet. When below average air quality is detected, the APP uses a built-in optimization engine to find short, mid, and long term recommendations, ultimately helping the user find the right long term strategy to improve and maintain the necessary air quality needed for long term health.
One common Air Mentor application includes the ability to provide an integrated solution for environmental monitoring which leverages digital signage and includes indoor air quality measurement and control. This very popular Small Business Solution can be used to maintain air quality across a range of commercial settings. The system itself is centered around a digital signage box which connects to the Air Mentor device to display the air quality index. The signage box can also connect to on site ventilation, air conditioning and air purification equipment via a gateway which then provides the ability to integrate these local systems and maintain an aggregate indoor air quality using a sophisticated software algorithm.
